Psalm 34

In this message, Pastor Andy shared on acting righteously from Psalm 34 and Micah 6:8. We see in Psalm 34:15-21 how God is attentive to those who are righteous and cares for the marginalized. When we choose to live righteously, it can come at a price, but God protects His people and shows care towards them. God is on the side of those who are righteous, but it can be confusing or worrisome to know how to live this out. Most of the time out of fear of being wrong, we do nothing.

Micah 6:8 states that the Lord instructs us to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God. To do justice is to continuously listen, ask, and act against the inequality in our world. To love mercy means we value those in need and overflow with compassion towards them. To walk humbly is to posture our hearts in a way to learn, regardless of what we think we know.

Overwhelmed to Overflowing - Psalm 23

Pastor Aaron draws a connection between our lives and the journey described in Psalm 23. Studies show that we are more stressed and overwhelmed than ever before. However, in verse five it says, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” Are we living an overwhelmed life or an overflowing life?

From this Psalm, we see that an overflowing life is one which overflows with contentment, restoration, comfort from the Lord, and provision. But to walk in an overflowing life, Pastor Aaron explains there are some choices we need to make. We must choose to make Jesus, our Shepherd, to rest our body and soul, to walk with Jesus through our valleys, and to trust God during times of adversity. God wants to fill you to overflowing so you have everything you need and plenty to give away.

Psalm 1

Pastor Aaron challenges us to embrace the Psalms as songs that feed our souls. The soul needs to be fed and its “superfood” is God’s Word.  The Psalms specifically speak the language of the soul as they produce pictures and melodies and as they point to Jesus, the Messiah.

Psalm 1 sets up the whole book with blessing and warning. God’s blessing is central in His relationship with us. Blessing doesn’t mix with evil, so the clear warning is about the subtle and powerful progression of evil. The clear solution is to meditate on His Word.

The Book

This week, Pastor Aaron challenges us to be people who allow our souls to feed on the Word of God. There are many things we can feed our minds with: knowledge, entertainment, social media, news, politics, and other content. If we only feed on these things, we will find ourselves drifting away from where God desires us to be. Why? Because what you fill your mind and heart with, your life will follow suit. Your behavior follows your belief.

The Parent/Child Relationship
